Scott Mackechnie

Head of Standards

Scott is an experienced senior executive with a track record of leading transformational change, performance management, quality assurance and driving service improvement in complex cross sector projects. He is used to working under pressure in fast moving and dynamic situations, having been a strategic commander (Gold) of critical and major incidents.

Scott brought a fresh perspective after he retired as a Detective Chief Superintendent with Hampshire Constabulary. As the Head of Crime he had responsibility for 1600 employees and a budget of circa £90m, managing all investigative assets across the force to include all serious crime including Rape, Child Abuse, Homicide, Serious Organised, Economic and Cyber Crime, as well as the Scientific Services and Criminal Justice Departments. 

On conclusion of his policing career he was a College of Policing accredited Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) for homicide, serious crime and kidnap/extortion, Strategic Investigation Manager and Strategic Firearms Commander. 

As well as heading a large command portfolio he has been involved in leading the investigative response to multiple high profile and sensitive investigations. He has spent over a quarter of a century as a Detective performing roles at a local and national level, with over 10 years spent investigating organised criminality at its highest level. He has previous experience as a national surveillance trainer at the Scottish Police College, whereas one of the most highly skilled and credible leaders became a coach and assessor of aspiring trainers. 

He is experienced in providing leadership scrutiny, accountability and challenge where he drives organisational performance improvement, engaging in appropriate levels of analysis, quality assurance and problem-solving methodology. He is accomplished in creating strategic framework for governance, risk and compliance. 

He is a committed, passionate and people orientated leader who is accomplished in senior stakeholder management, networking and collaboration, building trusted relationships at a strategic level, being well versed in understanding and navigating political and organisational pressures. 

His strategic management and leadership skills and experience have been recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) where he has Fellow membership (FMCI) as well as attaining the status of a Chartered Manager (CMgr).

Scott is also an experienced mentor and executive coach, which provides an added dimension to the leadership provided.
